Virginia Department of Transportation                      August 2017-Present

Learning and Development Specialist

  • Design, develop, and deliver high quality, interactive workshops with statewide working groups using adult learning principles to produce knowledge sharing tools, such as e-books, videos, presentations, and job aids
  • Lead a team of subject matter experts through Job Book projects which streamlines the onboarding process, reduces time-to-proficiency, and improves performance for new and inexperienced staff
  • Collaborate with key departments to plan, design, and implement a formal mentoring program that supports organizational change and knowledge sharing at multiple levels of the workforce
  • Plan and coordinate Chief Engineer’s leadership meeting for 250 leaders across the state that involves strong relationships with event contributors including vendors, photographers and AV technicians

  • Managed performance and career development plans for eight professional faculty advisors
  • Developed employee work profile to establish performance metrics for academic advisors
  • Created and facilitated office onboarding plan, which involved conducting new employee orientation
  • Facilitated trainings for new and seasoned employees on updated policies and procedures
  • Conducted needs assessment surveys to identify gaps and continuously improve educational programs

  • Assisted with the design, development, and delivery of teaching curriculum that meet identified learning outcomes
  • Generated monthly reports using Microsoft Excel and Google spreadsheets to track individual appointments and student retention


UNIV 101: Introduction to the University

  • Fall semester class that focused on student success and adjusting to college
  • Taught topics on time management, study skills, note-taking, and stress management
  • Taught three to five sections each fall semester.

UNIV 102: MINDSET for Academic Success

  • Taught one to two spring semester classes designed to help students with under a 2.0 grade point average return to good academic standing
  • Implemented a 90-Day Academic Challenge to build students’ academic self-efficacy through goal setting and achieving
  • Taught topics that supported students’ academic goals that included but were not limited to motivation, initiative, study skills, time management, note-taking, and procrastination
